Stratford
Strummers Ukulele group came into being when the three founder members, Mark,
Ali and Di met at ukulele lessons run by Stratford upon Avon Music Center in
2009. We have had other members of the group join when they have also attended
these lessons in later years and also we have found new friends who have wanted
to join us and Di's husband is now our bass ukulele player.
We have a
base of thirteen regular players and would always welcome new members at any
time. Some of the group had previous music experience but just as many had
never played an instrument before.
Our music
ranges from the 1920s to present day, with quite a lot of our repertoire from
the 60s and 70s. Our youngest member , Thomas, is 14 years old, our oldest
member in his 70s.
We meet
weekly to practise and are happy to do 'gigs' for social clubs, music
festivals, elderly care homes and pubs, in fact we just love to perform with
our Ukes.
It has been
said that ukuleles should be prescribed on the National health as playing them
always makes you feel happy. We hope to bring a smile to the faces of all who
hear us play as well as making us happy.
